Welcome to the University of Birmingham Lifesaving Club, which is dedicated to teaching the skills required to save a life. We welcome members of all abilities, from complete beginners to advanced lifesavers. We teach the CV enhancing RLSS Survive and Save lifesaving and Life Support awards throughout the terms, which focus on first aid, life support (CPR) and water rescue techniques. The club also regularly runs intensive NPLQ courses. All club members have the opportunity to compete in what has been described as ‘possibly the most demanding multi-discipline sport that exists in the world today’ in the British Universities Lifesaving Clubs’ Association (BULSCA) League and National Student Championships, as well as RLSS competitions. Competitors are tested on their reactions and lifesaving skills in emergency situations, as well as competing at individual and relay speed events based on lifesaving techniques, such as rope throw and manikin carry.
