Introduction to the club:
The University of Birmingham is proud to be one of the very best universities for Badminton in the country. We provide something for everyone from immensely enjoyable club evenings and many social events to high performance level play.
All of our competitive play takes place in our superb newly refurbished 5 court Sports Hall whilst the smaller 4 court Hall (also with a sprung floor) is used for training. For fitness training we use our weights room and newly refurbished Fitness Suite.
As a Focus Sport the Badminton Club at Birmingham benefits from the services of the Human Performance Unit which include fitness testing and screening, nutritional advice, medical and physiotherapy services plus sports psychology support.

Results
Birmingham is consistently rated within the top 3 universities for sport and badminton. Each season the major competitions are the Individual Championships at Nottingham in November plus the Team League matches – after Christmas Team KOs are also held with the Finals and semi-finals taking place in Sheffield in March.
Birmingham always comes away from Nottingham with a good number of medals and in the past 10 years we have provided the British Universities Individual Champion in Mens Singles on 6 occasions and in Womens Singles twice. In the same period we have also won 6 Gold medals in Team KO competitions.
In addition to the University competitions the Club runs 5 teams in the Birmingham League with our First teams competing very successfully in Division 1 of the Mens, Womens and Mixed Doubles.
Social Life
The Badminton Club is one of the most social clubs at the University and has a fantastic team spirit. We regularly meet up particularly on Wednesday nights after matches before going on to Sports Night at the Guild of Students. We are lucky to have our Sports Café ‘Raising the Bar’ on site at the Munrow Sports Centre for essential refuelling after competition and we hold regular socials throughout the year. Special events are our infamous Christmas Party and the end of season Athletic Union Dinner.
