Applications for this year’s Young Stars Camp are now open. The camp, which gives young sports people aspiring to study at university a chance to experience life as a student athlete at Birmingham, will run from Monday 29 October to Wednesday 31 October.
The camp covers both sides of being a student athlete at the University of Birmingham. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet team coaches, train with UBSport squads and attend workshops with sports science practitioners. These workshops will include sports psychology and physiology.
There will be tours of academic departments, as well as the campus as a whole. This gives potential applicants the chance to see where they might be studying in the future. There will also be many chances to train with and speak to current sports scholars, and gain insight into the life of high performing student athletes.
The camp will include five sports; Athletics, Rugby, Swimming, Triathlon and Lacrosse. Attendees of the camp will train with the university clubs to give them as feel of how the teams work and how training might be different from their current set-up. There will also be chance to watch British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) matches on Wednesday afternoon, which will give young athletes a taste of university-level competition.
Spaces on the camp are limited to 60, and applications are open to students in years 12 and 13. The camp will cost £85, which covers two nights accommodation, all meals, sessions with the sports practitioners, coaching sessions and evening activities.
