Alyssa Lim selected for Great Britain

The University of Birmingham’s Badminton team club captain Alyssa Lim has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 World University Championships to be held in Gwanju, South Korea.

The announcement comes at the end of a highly successful year for Alyssa, after she helped Great Britain beat a strong Malaysian side (a team GB had never beaten before) at the World Student Games in Shenzen, China in August to take 7th place overall, the highest position ever by a Great British team in the competition.

Alongside partner Paul van Rietvelde, Alyssa also reached the last 16 of the individual mixed doubles event at the Games to cap off a sensational time in China.

In December, Alyssa rounded off 2011 by taking gold at the Hampshire Badminton competition, the highest level of domestic competition, before helping the university’s badminton team claim bronze at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships in March.

The achievements of her last season have no doubt aided her selection cause for the prestigious tournament to be held November 6-11 this year.
