Archers delight at BUCS Outdoor Championship

Archery - University of Birmingham Sport

On Saturday June 16, the University of Birmingham Archery club earned five individual medals in a stunning display at the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Newport.

The team travelled to Shropshire in fine spirits, after recently winning the BUTTS Outdoor Championships and were looking to take this form in order to take home more silverware.

Birmingham’s team once more demonstrated why they are one of the most feared university teams in the country at these Championships and confirmed their place in history by ensuring this was their best season in recent years.

After picking up the Victory Wesley Award last week at the University’s Sports Awards Evening, Steve Johnson capped off a wonderful few days by taking gold in the Gents Experienced Longbow.

Also in the Gents section, Chris Tombe grabbed a well-deserved silver medal in the Gents Experienced Compound Bow event.

Elspeth Arthur led the Ladies team as she performed wonderfully to earn Ladies Experienced Longbow Gold.

There were also medals for Jos Sarsby and Zoe Hawken in the Ladies Experience Barebow and Ladies Experienced Recurve as the Birmingham team showed their strength in depth to take home medals in a number of events.
