Memorable weekend in the pool for Joe

Swimming BUCS 2011

At the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield, Joe Marsh of the University of Birmingham Sport (UBSport) swimming team had a weekend to remember, posting two new personal bests in the pool and in the process broke two club records.

The championships, held from June 20-23, bring together the best swimmers from across the country, which meant that Joe, who was not involved in swimming when he came to University due to injury, needed to pull out all of the stops to place highly in the event.

Joe’s first event of the weekend was the 100m Butterfly, and event in which he set a club record of 57.50 in February of this year.

And he produced a magnificent performance, managing to beat his own club record with a new PB of 56.39, whilst achieving 17th place overall.

Following this fine display, the second year Sports and Exercise Science recovered in time to compete in his strongest discipline, the 50m Butterfly, later that weekend.

Joe once more demonstrated his talent in the water, producing yet another personal best of 25.08, breaking his previous club record of 25.20.
