UBSport Fencing captain Tom Potterton helped the men’s England Foil team to gold at the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Malaysia on Friday.
The second year International Business and French student was part of the team which progressed through four rounds to beat Australia 45-32 in the final.
The event, held once every three years, saw over 216 fencers from 15 different countries travel to Penang for the week long competition.
The team medal went some way in making up for the disappointment Tom faced in the individual competition Despite finishing fourth after the first few rounds, a technical problem knocked him out in the last 16 leaving him ranked 9th overall.
