On Saturday 18 February, 2017, five current students competed at the Muller Birmingham Grand Prix.
The athletes had to make the difficult decision not to compete at BUCS Nationals, which unfortunately fell on the same weekend, despite a high probability of medal success and title defending.
Medicine student and Sport Scholar, Sarah McDonald, who recently became 1500m British Champion, placed 5th in the 1000m claiming a personal best of 2.39 in the process.
PhD student, Andrew Heyes, also ran a personal best in the 3000m. He was only marginally behind UBSport alumni Nick Goolab who claimed the bronze medal.
2016 Sports Person of the Year, Jonny Davies, gave a sterling performance running the full 5000m with Mo Farah and placing 8th overall with 13:58.04.
Jake Porter claimed 60m hurdles BUCS gold in Sheffield at the Indoor Nationals on Friday 17 February then he travelled back to Birmingham to compete again. He placed a fantastic 7th, a remarkable achievement for the second race in two days!
