The England & Wales Golf Individual Strokeplay Qualifier, finished last week, with students from Birmingham coming out on top of both the men's and women's competitions. Woodhall Spa Golf Club, home of the English Golf Union, hosted the Midlands round of the four qualifiers and the course was in great condition considering the time of year that this qualifier was being played.
In the men's event, University of Birmingham’s Daniel Beattie, who followed up his first round score of one under par, 72 with a second round of 70, took top place.
The women's qualifier was all about one player, Birmingham’s very own Lucy Williams, who started with an impressive four under par, 69 and followed that up with a two under par, 71, on day two to finish 6 under par and 11 shots clear of the rest of the field. This score is made all the more impressive due to the fact that she had to complete both of her rounds in gloomy conditions at the end of both days. Third place also went Birmingham’s Charlotte Hope.
