UBSport actively encourage people of all abilities to participate in recreational activities, so much so that we’re going through an extensive refurbishment of facilities using the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as guidance.
Our athletics track has easily accessible entry with the ability for disabled throwers to use our facilities to practise.
In the Munrow Sports Centre we have improved access between floors, easy access toilets & changing rooms have been established in key areas throughout the centre, dry side & swimming pool changing rooms. The swimming pool also has a manual hoist to assist people who might have difficulty getting into or out of the pool.
Disabled Swimmers
University of Birmingham Sport actively welcomes disabled swimmers to use the pool during lengths or general sessions. For more competitive swimmers, the university's swimming club can provide an avenue for students to train and compete.
Disabled Swim Club
University of Birmingham Sport supports a swim club that welcomes disabled swimmers - Alta disabled swim club. They are a friendly club based around recreational swimming and socialising with exclusive use of the pool on Sundays between 1pm-2.30pm, all welcome.
Reception has the facilities to assist customers with hearing difficulties. Our extensive weights & cardio-vascular facilities are equipped with FIA (Fitness Industry Association) approved equipment enabling people with limited mobility to still participate in a comprehensive workout. Our bar is easily accessible. We have an extensive range of Active Lifestyle classes which may benefit people looking to assist a rehabilitation programme suggested by their physiotherapist or GP.
