The British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) sporting programme is available to the 2.3 million students across the UK. Over 100,000 students regularly compete in BUCS competitions, leagues and events. BUCS delivers 50 sports to these students and universities and organises 150 individual finals or championship events each year. Joining one of the university sports clubs offers you the chance to compete on behalf of your University, a fantastic opportunity and the highlight of many students’ sporting careers.
For most team sports, competition begins with regional leagues played every Wednesday afternoon during the autumn term. Institutions finishing top of their league advance to national knock-out competitions played on Wednesday afternoons in the spring term, or to the Indoor Finals weekend which takes place in March. Other sports compete in one-day or weekend tournaments throughout the year.
BUCS is also responsible for co-ordinating the UK teams for the World University Championships and World University Games.
