Individuals may wish to gain nationally recognised qualifications through the British Canoe Union or Royal Yachting Association. The Centre can arrange these during the year – please contact us for details.
Coach Training and Assessment
National Governing Bodies have a coaching scheme which may be entered by individuals once a stated level of personal competence and experience has been reached. Coaching scheme courses require permission from the appropriate National Governing Body before they can be run. Clubs wishing to have such a programme taught at the Centre should contact Norman Beech, the Centre Manager, to discuss their requirements and arrange a suitable date.
At the moment, the Raymond Priestley Centre can arrange the following coaching courses:
BCU (British Canoe Union)
Courses with staff who are Contracted Course Providers Assessment to 4 star - inland and sea kayak, and open canoe Training and assessment to Level 3 Coach – inland and sea kayak and open canoe.
RYA (Royal Yachting Association
Dinghy assessment to Level 5
Windsurfing assessment to Level 2
Logbook experience
For those already in a National Governing Body coaching scheme and attempting to gain further teaching experience, the Centre may be able to provide suitable opportunities, e.g. during Active Lifestyle Programme visits.
